Bueno, pues te digo que me dormí, sin tener en cuenta que el Imbécil, al que podemos considerar discípulo del demonio de Tasmania, se quedaba despierto y con total libertad para hacer de las suyas. Es un niño que necesitaría sólo para él un guardia-jurado de servicio las veinticuatro horas del día. Mientras yo dormía el Imbécil sacó la cinta y metió a dos de sus muñecos Pin y Pon por la ranura del vídeo. Luego, me despertó a su estilo, con sus inconfunibles tortas en la cara.
-- Pero, ¿qué pasa, niño? -- le dije yo con el corazón a 350 pulsaciones al segundo.
-- El nene quiere ver a los pin y pones en la tele.
-- Pues el nene se tiene que aguantar porque los pin y pones sólo salen en los anuncios de Navidad.
-- Sí, salen. El nene los ha puesto -- dicho esto, me señaló el vídeo.
-- Pero, ¿qué has hecho, bestia? -- no le llamé bestia por insultarle, se lo llamé porque se lo merecía.
Intenté meter la mano en la ranura pero no me llegaba hasta el fondo. Además, tampoco quería hurgar demasiado. Mi madre nos ha metido el miedo desde pequeños a morir electrocutados.
De repente, esa misma madre de la que os hablo siempre abrió la puerta. Se quedó con la cara a cuadros cuando me vio con la mano dentro del vídeo de la Luisa.
-- ¿Qué estás haciendo si puedes saberse, bestia? -- como verás, el término "bestia" es bastante común en mi familia. Lo empleamos los unos con los otros siempre que tenemos oportunidad, eso sí, siempre nos cuidamos de usarlo con un ser inferior en el escalafón.
-- El nene quiere ver a los pin y pones en la tele -- el Imbécil seguía con su idea.
-- Es que los ha metido aquí y no los puedo sacar.
-- ¿Y tú para qué le dejas? -- me dijo mi madre.
-- Porque no me he dado cuenta, me había dormido.
-- ¿Pero es que no te das cuenta de que con éste uno no se puede dormir?
Me hubiera gustado decirle: "Pues tú bien que te echas la siesta", pero no se lo dije porque amo la vida y sé el tipo de comentarios que la pueden poner bastante furiosa. | 翻訳 - 英語
Well, my story is that I fell asleep without realising that the Idiot – who basically sees the Tasmanian devil as a role model - was still awake, completely free to do whatever he wanted. He’s the type of kid who needs round-the-clock supervision from a trained professional. While I was asleep, the Idiot took the videotape out of the VCR and put two of his Playmobil dolls inside it. Then he woke me up in his special way - by whacking me on the face.
“Hey, what’s going on?” I said to him, with my heart pounding at 350 beats a second.
“Baby wants to see Playmobil people on the T.V.”
“Well, baby will have to wait because they only come on in the adverts at Christmastime.”
“No, they’ll come on. Baby put them on,” he pointed at the VCR as he said this.
“What have you done, stupid?” I didn’t call him stupid to insult him, I did it because he deserved it.
I tried putting my hand inside the machine but I couldn’t reach all the way to the back. Anyway, I didn’t want to poke around too much; ever since we were really small my mother has instilled us with the fear of death-by-electrocution.
Suddenly, that very same mother who I always talk to you guys about opened the door. She knitted her brow when she saw me with my hand inside Luisa’s VCR.
“What on Earth are you doing, stupid?” As you can see, the term “stupid” is pretty common in my family. We use it to address eachother whenever we have the chance, of course, but we take care only to use it on inferior beings within the hierarchy.
“Baby wants to see Playmobil people on the T.V,” said the Idiot, still going on about it.
“Well, he put them in here and I can’t get them out.”
“Why did you let him put them in there?” my mother asked me.
“Because I didn’t realise, I fell asleep.”
“But don’t you realise that you can’t let yourself fall asleep when he’s around?”
I would’ve liked to have said to her: “Well it’s okay for you to take a nap," but I didn’t say it because I value my life and I know the kinds of remarks that can make her pretty angry. |

Background and education:
I hold an MA Honours degree in Hispanic Studies from the University of Glasgow which encompassed Spanish and Portuguese language as well as literature and culture. I achieved First Class marks for the course components of Spanish to English Literary Translation, Spanish Language and for my dissertation, entitled "An Investigation into the Linguistic Adapation of Foreign Films in Spain".
In addition, I have lived for extended periods of time in various locations in Spain. I am currently an English Language Assistant and conversation tutor in Navarra. I am also a voluntary Spanish > English translator for Cafébabel.com.
Due to dual nationality and having lived between the UK and the USA throughout my life, I am able to proofread and translate into both British and American English.
