I have just completed an MA in Applied Translation Studies at Leeds University and prior to that I was a secondary school language teacher. The MA course has given me training in many of the major CAT tools (TRADOS, Passolo, Wordfast, DVX, Omega T and STAR Transit) and at home I use DVX, Omega T and Wordfast.
I have spoken Italian all my life as my father is Italian although, being born and brought up in the UK, my mother tongue is English. I started studying French at the age of 11 and lived and worked there for a year as part of my degree in French and Italian.
The MA also gave me the opportunity to translate many different text types, including journalistic, administrative, technical and specialised and literary. I received distinctions and merits for all of my assessments in these text types in both language pairs.
At the end of the course I had to submit an extended translation in French-English and Italian-English. For the French-English I translated a chapter of 'Les Verts' 2007 political manifesto and for the Italian - English I translated selected pages of an Umbria tourist website using DVX to generate identical-looking target .html files.
I am hugely excited about my new career as a freelance translator. I am organised, reliable, efficient, computer-literate and can guarantee translations of a very high standard. |
