Dutch to English translations [Non-PRO] Science - Psychology / psychoanalyse
Explanation: See e.g. "The brain need not use the temporal order of the brain processes as the means of representing the temporal order of events in the world, hence the temporal relationships between brain processes that represent events need not be the same as the temporal relationships between the events represented." ("Daniel Dennett", By David Thompson: http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=DgoIp1M_puIC&pg=PA31&lpg=... )
Every chronological relationship is a temporal relationship, but every temporal relationship is not a chronological relationship. That is, chronological is more specific, temporal is more general.
Every chronological relationship is a temporal relationship, but every temporal relationship is not a chronological relationship. That is, chronological is more specific, temporal is more general.
The author did not use the Dutch term "chronologische relatie", but "tijdsrelatie". I don't think it would be incorrect to translate it as "chronological relationship", but I think temporal r. might be better.
Also, I think freek's suggestion re: just leaving out the "relatie" part would also work fine.
conform zijn woordgebruik "per associatie". Zaken gerelateerd aan tijd... Bij tijdkwesties... Dat hele relaties kan je gewoon weglaten!
time issue
When dealing with (the) time (issue)/temporal relations we often get fooled by our own intuitions. After all this is also the case with a phenomenon that is as transitory as a dream but does occur in real/waking life, namely the 'déjà vu'.
Yes, "wie weet hoe lang op de plank lag" is a use of language that is a bit vague and colloquial.
It means something like: something that has led a latent existence for a long time, something that has been in store for a long time. It has been there for a long time but so far it had not been noticed, it has been on the shelves for a long time but just now it found it's way to dream consciousness
Barend, this one is a hard nut to crack really, honestly i can't get my head around it now that i am also stuck with *wie weet hoe lang op de plank lag*...
chronological: 1. (Of a record of events) following the order in which they occurred 1.1 Calculated in terms of the passage of time 1.2 Relating to the establishment of dates of past events
Finally a question that I am officially qualified to answer, given that I studied Dennett while doing my BA in philosophy. It's just a shame there isn't more NL>EN philosophy stuff requiring translation ;)

temporal relationship
Explanation: See e.g. "The brain need not use the temporal order of the brain processes as the means of representing the temporal order of events in the world, hence the temporal relationships between brain processes that represent events need not be the same as the temporal relationships between the events represented." ("Daniel Dennett", By David Thompson: http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=DgoIp1M_puIC&pg=PA31&lpg=... )
Example sentence(s):
Fundamental notions, such as the sense of agency and causality, depend on the temporal relationship of events occurring in well-defined windows of time.
