French term or phrase: parmi
This is an interview with a pop singer.

I'm wondering if "parmi" in this context might be translated as "along with" or "like" as opposed to "among."
So: Along with/like the first singers ...
instead of: Among the first singers ...

if/when you talk about....
Explanation:
..... the first "yéyé" singers...
Somewhat free, I know; but as has been said elsewhere, the contrast is between American singers and French ones....
I note that Tony has seen it's a man talking... I am dying to know who it is!!

Explanation:
I agree with W/A — your proposed translation would actually change the meaning.

If you strip 'among' back to its most basic meaning, you can get to something like '(out) of all...' — although adding 'all' is perhaps taking a slight liberty, I do feel it makes the whole thing read a lot better. And she does sound as if she might have had a bit of a chip on her shoulder about this point...

Sorry, just realized it isn't a 'she' after all — my bad!

Oops, my apologies for incorrectly crediting W/A with Katsy's discussion comment!

-> Thanks, katsy! I thought the same thing, but then there seemed to be a m. agreement in this question that threw me a bit. / Ah yes, must have been a slip, as there's also a f. one!

agree  Victoria Britten: Also with your reservations about 'all'
