I am not quite sure what you mean. What does it mean in your experience then? I never said cover up by the way but wear something underneath. I have several such garments and covering them up would eliminate the whole purpose of owning the garment.

not everyone feels comfortable wearing a garment made of a material that is potentially see-through or with sections that are see-through, even if those sections are located in innocent areas such as along the back. besides, some materials are not transparent until the light hits them just right (skirts are a great example of this, although not relevant here).

In my experience, it often doesn't mean "transparent" in the sense of "potentially embarrassing if you don't cover it with something else."

yes, that sounds logical. I think it's more likely an undergarment. Something that eliminates the embarrassment factor without sacrificing the aesthetic effect.

a me sembra che top sia il soggetto quindi potrebbe essere un "matching top" per coprire le trasparenze, tipo un coprispalle per un vestito scollato (o una specie di canottiera da mettere sotto ad un altro top trasparente)
