In this usage, igyou would directly translate as "abnormal shape". However, it runs a little deeper than that. It means more along inhuman shaped, or somehow different. By this series of translations, it also gives this impression of deformity or abnormality. This is the difficult part. The Japanese gods have elements that are accentuated, showing that clearly they are no normal human being. But it isn't a deformity - imagine the 6 armed humanoid gods from India, or the elephant faced ones. They are 異形、 but are not deformed. Abnormal, but without the negative connotation. I hope this ranting makes some sense :D.
I'd translate it as a "The attic - a space to celebrate the gods of strange appearance" |
