日本語から英語への翻訳 [PRO] Tech/Engineering - 機械工学 | | 日本語の用語またはフレーズ いぢりこわし | Has anyone seen this term before?
The real problem I am having is with "いぢり”
The doc. is related to merits/demerits of preventive and predictive maintenance.
Here is a sample of the context:
どうしても作業者のミスや修理・復元時の忘れ事故などが完全には避けられずトラブルとなる。いわゆる「いぢりこわし」が発生する。 |
| | | 英語訳botch-ups / mess-ups / flub-ups | 説明: いわゆる「いぢりこわし」が発生する。 = This is when what is known as "botch-ups" occur. ~or~ Those so-called "botch-ups" occur.
The Japanese word "いぢりこわし" has a colloquial or somewhat casual, slangy feel to it.
"Botch-ups" , "mess-ups" and "flub-ups" also have that colloquial casual, slangy feel.
The sentence before it does not exactly imply "breakage" so I think "botch-ups" can work for a variety of problems that occur with the workers.
弄る=touch, tamper with, play with (Nelson's J-E Character Dictionary) In this case, the verb "tamper" fits quite well in combination with "breakage" creating "botch-ups." |

4時間 自信度: | breaking while trying to repair
説明: Of course, there is no simple equivalent for this in English, but the meaning of this is that someone who is not good at handling and/or repairing/maintaining some machine or some such item breaks it or ruins it instead of setting right.
Perhaps the best way is to put this in a more polite form instead of the actually implied meaning which would hurt the pride of an operator!

21時間 自信度: | one of the routine "mishandling problems" occurs
説明: I think this translation is closer to the context.
Since such and such problems cannot be avoided,
and since all the problems are related to one or another form of 'mishandling', I would opt for this rendering.
