Protection Cathodique du Réseau
L’éventuelle corrosion qui affecte les tubes de transport pneumatique est presque toujours de nature électrochimique.
On entend par corrosion l’interaction d’un métal avec le milieu ambiant, qui provoque la détérioration de ses propriétés aussi bien physiques que chimiques. Ce phénomène se caractérise fondamentalement par le fait qu’il ne se produit qu’en présence d’un électrolyte, qui crée des zones nettement identifiées dénommées anodiques et cathodiques : une réaction d’oxydation est une réaction anodique au cours de laquelle les électrons sont libérés et se dirigent vers d’autres zones cathodiques. C’est dans la zone anodique que se produit la dissolution du métal, la corrosion, qui porte atteinte par la suite à l’immunité du métal dans la zone cathodique.
Cette corrosion peut être dangereuse, non pas en raison de la détérioration du métal proprement dite, qui est généralement faible, mais parce qu’il s’agit d’une corrosion localisée qui peut provoquer des piqûres profondes. Il est donc nécessaire de recourir à une technique de protection cathodique.
En chimie, on désigne par « corrosion par les sols », les processus de dégradation qui affectent les structures enterrées. L’intensité de cette corrosion dépend de divers facteurs, tels que le taux d’humidité, la composition chimique, le pH du sol, etc. En pratique on utilise en général la valeur de la résistivité électrique du sol comme indice de son agressivité ; par exemple un terrain très agressif, caractérisé par la présence d'ions chlorures, aura une résistivité faible due à la grande facilité de transport ionique.
La protection cathodique est une méthode électrochimique de plus en plus utilisée, qui a recours au même principe électrochimique que celui de la corrosion, en implantant une grande cathode dans un élément métallique enterré ou submergé.
Ce mécanisme va impliquer une migration des électrons vers le métal à protéger : Les mêmes électrons, qui se sont déplacés depuis les anodes externes, sont placés à des endroits précis pour y accomplir leur fonction.
À cette protection, il faut ajouter celle qui est offerte par les revêtements, comme par exemple les peintures, qui sont importantes pour protéger ces matériaux tels que le courant électrique, la résistivité électrique du milieu électrolytique, la densité du courant, le nombre des anodes et la résistance électrique qui ont de l’influence sur les résultats finaux.

L’eventuale corrosione cui sono soggetti i tubi di trasporto pneumatico è quasi sempre di natura elettrochimica.
Con corrosione si designa l’interazione di un metallo con l’ambiente circostante, che provoca il deterioramento delle sue proprietà, sia fisiche che chimiche. Tale fenomeno è caratterizzato dal fatto che si verifica solo in presenza di un elettrolito, che crea zone nettamente identificabili denominate anodiche e catodiche: una reazione di ossidazione è una reazione anodica durante la quale gli elettroni vengono ceduti e migrano verso altre zone catodiche. È nella zona anodica che avviene la dissoluzione del metallo, ossia la corrosione, che attacca in seguito l’immunità del metallo nella zona catodica.
Tale corrosione può essere pericolosa, non per il deterioramento del metallo propriamente detto, che è in genere lieve, ma perché si tratta di una corrosione localizzata che può dare origine a cavità profonde. È quindi necessario ricorrere ad una tecnica per la protezione catodica.
In chimica, si designano con « corrosione nei terreni », i processi di degradazione che attaccano le strutture interrate. L’intensità di tale corrosione dipende da molti fattori, come il tasso di umidità, la composizione chimica, il pH del terreno ecc. Nella pratica ci si serve generalmente del valore della resistività elettrica del terreno per stabilirne l’indice di aggressività; ad esempio, un terreno molto aggressivo, caratterizzato dalla presenza di ioni cloruri, avrà una resistività debole a causa della grande facilità del trasporto di ioni.
La protezione catodica è un metodo elettrochimico sempre più diffuso che ricorre allo stesso principio elettrochimico della corrosione, impiantando un grande catodo in un elemento metallico interrato o sommerso.
Questo meccanismo implica una migrazione degli elettroni verso il metallo da proteggere: Gli stessi elettroni, che si sono spostati dagli anodi esterni, sono disposti in punti precisi per adempiere alla loro funzione.
A questa protezione va aggiunta quella offerta dai rivestimenti, ad esempio le vernici, essenziali per proteggere i materiali e la corrente elettrica, la resistività elettrica dell'ambiente elettrolitico, la densità di corrente, il numero di anodi e la resistenza elettrica, che influenzano i risultati finali
