Reading Polish characters from MS Word on a Mac

Hi,

Hope someone can help with this. I have a client who has had a Polish MS Word document supplied to them, but they are unable to see the Polish special characters when they import it into Quark Xpress on a Mac. Is there a simple way to get round this - either just by doing a 'save as' in Word or by using some kind of freely available conversion filter?

But what your cusomter needs, is Search&Replace for the "corrupted" characters and using the proper ones in Mac.

You can save a polish doc on a PC with Word as what you want - the encoding for QXP will not fit.

Word for Mac and Windows is unicode-aware, and I think QuarkXPress is as well, so one of these solutions should work for all applications.

You need a Mac CE font and a text file with Mac encoding Sep 24, 2006

Quark Xpress was not unicode aware before version 7. Therefore, I would try this: Save the Word DOC as a text file and when Word asks for the encoding, change it to "Western European - Mac Encoding". Then import this file into Quark and change the fonts to Central European fonts such as Helvetica CE or Times CE.
