I have to translate in Japanese a legal document in which the name Takeshi appears in Romaji. As there are several options to writing this name in kanji, and I have no possibility to check the correct spelling of the name, would the phonetic transcription in katakana be acceptable legally? The document is a mandate in which the client empowers her Japanese friend to help her with some procedures. Would this type of mandate be acceptable for Japanese authorities?
