I have a well-established translation business in Maputo, Mozambique in partnership with my Mozambican colleague Olivia Mariquele, doing jobs from en to pt and pt to en in a wide range of fields that include general development issues, contracts and legislation, business/accounting, engineering (eg roads/bridges) and training manuals. Our clients are a mix of foreign embassies, NGOs and consulting and other firms, both locally and abroad (Europe and North America).
I have a varied background, having studied Linguistics at university in Canada in the 1970s but subsequently working as a factory worker, researcher in the work organization impacts of technological change and graphic designeer. I came to Mozambique in 1990 to coordinate a project to establish a training centre in occupational health and safety. I consider this broad background of practical work in many areas to be one of my main strengths as a translator.
Aside from translation (and occasional work as simultaneous interpreter), I have many years' experience in music production here in Mozambique, as well as in web site design.
I have developed a computer-assisted translation software application for Macintosh OSX which I use in my translation work and hope to soon offer as a commercial product.
I travel a lot, and when I do I enjoy taking cooking classes as a way to find out a bit about the local culture.
