日本語 term

白浮き

日本語 から 英語 その他 化粧品、美容 foundation
Foundation or face powder sometimes does this, and it's a bad thing. WHAT it is, I cannot seem to identify! Streaking? Caking? Looking pale or white? Powdery? Flaking? Several references on google say this happens often with products that contain sunscreen, but I still can't pinpoint it. Help!! (TIA.)*While I'm at it, there's another term 肌浮きthat may or may not be related... Any help would be appreciated.

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com May 30, 2005:
The example I'm looking at now appears as follows in a list of shortcomings of a foundation: ̂тdGGۂAPڗ.
KathyT May 29, 2005:
Cancel that, I can see that this is only *after* application.
However, some more context would still help...
KathyT May 29, 2005:
Is this specifically describing the effect of what happens *after* it has been applied? Or can it also happen in the container, eg. face powders drying out in the compact or liquid foundations separating within the bottle?
Can u provide full sentence?

too white

浮く means that something stands out or something is so conspicuous that it does not match the rest. 白, of course, means white.

So, it means that foundation or face powder is so white that your face just stands out and that it does not match the color of the rest (neck, back, ears, hands, etc.). That's why they suggest using foundation that is a shade darker for a certain kind of powder.

This one seems to capture the essence of it best, although it looks like all the suggested wordings would work in most cases. Thanks also to KathyT for her great link -- lots of useful stuff on that page! "

not well blended into the skin

Yes it menas powderly, caking, or looking unnaturally white. Nonetheless, all these 肌浮き,のびが重い;白浮きする;粉っぽさ、肌ムケが目立つ, etc. refer to the foundation or powder not well blended in onto the face. We women want natural looking makeup, and none of these qulaity do not cooperate to achieve this.
