Pure ad
純: Pure
広告: Advertisement
Is the writer perhaps making a distinction between pure ads that simply announce the availability of a product and those such as advertorials and infomercials that portray a product as a newsworthy breakthrough?

: The katakana refers to 'advertorials' where the product is sold much more gently, as almost a side effect of providing useful content to the consumer.

regular advertisement, normal advertisement
純広(純広告) is the most basic, traditional type of ad designed and placed at the advertisers' own initiative in apparently 'advertising' style, while tie-ups, paid pubs (or アドバトリアル = advertisement + editorial) are designed to look like 'articles' for more "credibility".
