Italian term

trofismo

Italian to English Medical Nutrition food supplement
Complete phrase: Benessere e trofismo delle mucose.
this is listed as an effect of Acer Saccharinum.
What would be the correct translation of trofismo in this case? I find translations such as tropism/mass, etc but am not sure what the best one would be in this context.
TIA

Discussion

SJLD Sep 30, 2009:
trophism I don't like to use this word (as correct as it may be) since most people have no idea what it means. In this particular context, it means that the mucous membrane is "well-nourished", of normal thickness, normal cell growth and turnover. We are more used to seeing the word "atrophy" which signifies the absence of normal trophism.
