German term

Verbindungsrecht

German to English Law/Patents Music intellectual property agreements
This is a "music publishing agreement" between the author/lyricist and the publisher. one heading deals with editing or adapting the music or lyrics and/or "combining" the music with lyrics from someone else or with other songs. I can't find the english for this and I don't believe it's "combination rights" or "connection rights". Anyone familiar with IP Law?

neutral Armorel Young : Your reference is a good example of a thoroughly unreliable website. The word is spelt synchronization (or synchronisation), and in English the words don't need capitals and most certainly don't need a hyphen

reproduction or adaptation rights

Both form parts of the more general copyrights which apply to artistic creations of the mind. More specifically, you could also use the “right to create derivative works“ which is one of the exclusive rights which typically attach to the holder of a copyright.

“Intellectual property rights are a bundle of exclusive rights over creations of the mind, both artistic and commercial. The former is covered by copyright laws, which protect creative works such as books, movies, music, paintings, photographs, and software and gives the copyright holder exclusive right to control reproduction or adaptation of such works for a certain period of time.“

“Copyright is a legal concept, enacted by most governments, giving the creator of an original work exclusive rights to it, usually for a limited time. Generally, it is "the right to copy", but also gives the copyright holder the right to be credited for the work, to determine who may adapt the work to other forms, who may perform the work, who may financially benefit from it, and other, related rights. It is an intellectual property form (like the patent, the trademark, and the trade secret) applicable to any expressible form of an idea or information that is substantive and discrete.”

neutral John Dale D.D. : Where, apart from the mind, does artistic creativity come? Sorry but I cannot make sense of your arguement. Also it is not helpful to paste chunks of text which are not germain.

You might want to just read more closely (e. g. down to “books, movies, music, paintings, photographs, and software”). Copyright and related rights refer to “artistic creativity” most essentially, I can assure you.

associated rights

I think the whole thing (Bearbeitungsrechte und Verbindungsrechte) means copyrights and associated rights.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Gert Sass (M.A.) : “Ass. rights” are simply “verbundene Rechte” or smlr in German, rather than “Verbindungsrechte” in the above meaning. You should read David’s full question, incl. the quoted sentence. BTW: Bearbeitungsrechte are not equivalent to copyrights either.
