This is from a description by Alexander von Humboldt on the book of Ruth. Here's the full quote:

"Während von Josua bis Samuel die Poesie der Hebräer eine kriegerische Begeisterung atmet, bietet ‘das kleine Buch der ährenlesenden Ruth ‘ein Naturgemälde dar von der naivsten Einfachheit und vom unaussprechlichen Reize."

gleaner

Ruth gleaned corn, i.e. picked up the bits after the harvest. "The gleaner Ruth" sounds a bit odd, however. You might want to get round it another way, but that's the idea.
