This is from a description by Alexander von Humboldt on the book of Ruth. Here's the full quote:

Ruth gleaned corn, i.e. picked up the bits after the harvest. "The gleaner Ruth" sounds a bit odd, however. You might want to get round it another way, but that's the idea.
