Bubo Coroman (X) May 3, 2010:
well spotted Jim... thanks for the clarification!
Jim Tucker (X) May 2, 2010:
can't refer to the (f.) installations
Bubo Coroman (X) May 1, 2010:
another example of an espacio de gran envergadura might be the Tabakalera http://www.tabacalera.eu/About-Tabakalera/menu/presentation/...

If you type the artist's name into Google images do you see photo of specific centres, so you can see what type of centre is work is installed in?
Bubo Coroman (X) May 1, 2010:
do you think... your term refers to the "espacios" rather than the artist's installations? In that case, might they be spaces "of mixed purpose" or "with a blend of purposes" (because the purposes are interrelated)? (like Tenerife Espacio de las Artes: a huge municipal place that is part library, part film centre, part art gallery)

transitional in nature

I'm pretty sure "ellos" refers to the spaces. In art, transitional spaces is a familiar term, whether being used literally (physically) or metaphorically.

Below is an example of it being used in both senses:

Acoustic art in public spaces basically involves installing a space in another existing space, both physically and sensorially, and metaphysically and mentally – an interior space in an exterior space, so to speak. The original quality of sound art lies in the oscillation of interior and exterior space. Thus public spaces intensified by sound art cause transitional spaces to come into being, in a political and a psychoanalytic sense.
