español term

llevar a

I see this translated as "bring to (volume)" in the glossary but I wonder if it is "add to" in this context? Add ketotifen to 5ml HCI O?
TIA for your help/suggestions.

Thanks Neil I'm convinced :-)

You could say that but my opinion is that "dissolve A in B and leave for 48 hours" is the correct expression when adding a solid to a liquid/solvent (that's why I posted it as a suggestion ;@) ). It's how I used to parse it when writing up experiments and, IMO, is more scientific/formal.

How about... add A to B and leave for 48 hours. Would this be used in a pharmaceutical context?

As you say "Llevar a" usually means "fill to X ml with solution A", but here, given the context of the whole sentence and the fact that the "materia prima" is a solid (34.9 mg), I think it just means "dissolve in".

Another possibility: "llevar a" is also used for "adjust the pH to X", a typical Spanish phrase being "llevar a un pH de ~X con 5 ml de HCl....". Of course this would mean the original text is missing a few important words so it's not very likely. Either way the objective is to dissolve the solid.

español term (edited): llevar a materia al ácido durante 48 horas

combine the material and the acid for a duration of 48 hours

1. The problem here is the 48 hours. It does not take 48 hours to add 35 mg of fumarate to 5 mL of dilute acid, and it might be hard to do.
2. Therefore, I think "add" makes little sense. That is why I think "combine" is satisfactory here.
