Swedish term

Vildande

Swedish to English Law/Patents Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs Wedding Certificate (Islam)
I am translating a wedding certificate for a Muslim wedding.

The document lists the names and personal ID numbers of the bride and groom, then it lists the dowry (i.e., "Kontant Brudgåvan" and then it reads "Vildande: Hajj resa".

I am sure this is not "wild duck".

WE should be open to the idea that this could be a typo. The document is otherwise in rather poor Swedish.

Discussion

Alison MacG Sep 12, 2016:
? Long shot, but could it be a typo for Vilande, to the effect that this is part of the mahr/dowry that is deferred/delayed/promised for later, i.e. at the time of the marriage, the husband promises to take the wife on her pilgrimage at some point in the future.

One of the essential elements of the Islamic marriage contract is that the husband pays an agreed dowry (in Arabic, mahr) to the wife. This can be in the form of any kind of wealth and it can be immediate or deferred or a combination of both. The part of the mahr which is immediate is paid immediately or shortly after the marriage ceremony (in Arabic, nikah) has taken place. The wife can do whatever she wants with it. The part of the mahr which is deferred may become payable in the event of a specific situation arising in the future – for example, when the husband is able to pay it, or if he divorces his wife.

If this comes immediately after "Kontant - brudgåvan", perhaps it is a version of (and strange use of) "viljande" - "willing" or "wanting".

agree Tariq Khader (X) : This is by far the most feasible solution

Thanks Tariq!
neutral Christopher Schröder : It's a bit of a stretch. Could just as easily be bildande or for that matter Billund...

I suppose the only one who knows is the person who compiled the dowry list.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks. This made sense in the context. It is always tricky with poor quality originals."

Perhaps it's a typo - can't think of the Swedish word quickly but mixed with veiledende in Norwegian - the money is suggested to be used for the specific trip.
