Q: What's your outlook on gold and silver for the next two to three years, given the woefully bleak dollar worldwide?
A: We don't predict anything in silver. We do have a forecast for gold, but it's much shorter-term. We believe that gold will retrace a part of its recent gains and perhaps dip as low as $410 an ounce early in 2005. Nevertheless, with the dollar expected to continue to decline, gold would be an appropriate offset for people concerned about the declining dollar. It's interesting to note that over the last year, while gold has risen in price in dollars, it has actually declined in euros. What we can conclude from this is that the current gold play is simply the inverse of the declining dollar.
