Testo originale - Inglese A dominant theme in One Hundred Years of Solitude is the inevitable and inescapable repetition of history in Macondo.
The protagonists are controlled by their pasts and the complexity of time.
Throughout the novel the characters are visited by ghosts.
"The ghosts are symbols of the past and the haunting nature it has over Macondo. The ghosts and the displaced repetition that they evoke are, in fact, firmly grounded in the particular development of Latin American history".
"Ideological transfiguration ensured that Macondo and the Buendías always were ghosts to some extent, alienated and estranged from their own history, not only victims of the harsh reality of dependence and underdevelopment but also of the ideological illusions that haunt and reinforce such social conditions."
The fate of Macondo is both doomed and predetermined from its very existence.
"Fatalism is a metaphor for the particular part that ideology has played in maintaining historical dependence, by locking the interpretation of Latin American history into certain patterns that deny alternative possibilities. The narrative seemingly confirms fatalism in order to illustrate the feeling of entrapment that ideology can performatively create."
García Márquez uses colours as symbols.
Yellow and gold are the most frequently used colors and they are symbols of imperialism and the Spanish Siglo de Oro.
Gold signifies a search for economic wealth, whereas yellow represents death, change, and destruction.
The glass city is an image that comes to José Arcadio Buendía in a dream.
It is the reason for the location of the founding of Macondo, but it is also a symbol of the ill fate of Macondo.
Higgins writes that, "By the final page, however, the city of mirrors has become a city of mirages. Macondo thus represents the dream of a brave new world that America seemed to promise and that was cruelly proved illusory by the subsequent course of history."
Images such as the glass city and the ice factory represent how Latin America already has its history outlined and is, therefore, fated for destruction.

He shifted his gaze to the peak, now a dark silhouette against the ice-clear stars.
"There, the light shows again."
Slowly the red glow progressed along a cliff face, much higher than it had before.
For minutes it moved along steadily, then faded.
"That thing," said Evers suddenly, "was goin' along Fifth Avenue. Spooks don't need a route of ascent, even up Precipice. All of a sudden, the lights of Precipice Peak are gettin' solid. I got a feelin' they'll leave sign."
"Sign?"
Royston's voice went up in the darkness.
There was the familiar pause, then Royston's satisfied tone: "Ah, yes, traces."
"Right—traces, tracks, spoor. Only mystery about those lights is, we don't know who makes them. But they're gettin' to be a tourist attraction. Maybe that's a lead."
"How many trips have there been up Precipice this season?"
Royston queried softly.

This customisation effort draws on the knowledge of geopolitical strategists, like Kate Edwards from Englobe.
During the 2006 Game Developers Conference in California she explained the importance of being culturally aware when internationalising games in a presentation called "Fun vs. Offensive: Balancing the 'Cultural Edge' of Content for Global Games" (Edwards 2006).
Both developers and publishers want to please their clients.
Gamers are not particularly interested in where the game comes from, or who created it any more than someone buying a new car or DVD player.
A product for mass consumption only keeps the branding features of the trademark; all the other characteristics might be subject to customisation due to the need to appeal to the local market.
Therefore, the translation will be in some cases an actual recreation, or, to put it in the words of Mangiron & O’Hagan (2006), a "transcreation", where translators will be expected to produce a text with the right "feel" for the target market.
It is important for translators to be aware of the logic behind this.
Video games are a software product, and as such, they will have manuals and instructions, as well as interactive menus and help files.
This will call for technical translation.
On the other hand, we will also find narration and dialogue closer to literary texts or film scripts where a more creative translation would be expected.
However, unlike most forms of translation, video games can adapt or even change the original script, as long as it is in the search of enhanced fun and playability of the target culture.
We can only find a parallel of this type of practice in the translation of children’s literature where professionals often adapt or alter the original text to improve children’s understanding and enjoyment of the book.

L'unico parallelo con questo tipo di pratica può essere trovato nella letteratura per bambini dove i professionisti spesso adattano o alterano il testo originale in modo da migliorare la comprensione e il divertimento del libro da parte dei bambini.
