I am a native English speaker providing translation, proofreading, QA and galley editing services in the following language pairs:
Arabic to English (US and UK)
Spanish to English (US and UK)
Catalan to English (US and UK)
French to English (US and UK)
I view translation as the art of rendering a text written in a foreign language into the translator’s native tongue (in my case, English). While remaining as faithful as possible to the meaning of the original text, my focus is on the English-speakers who will read my work. Therefore, I strive to produce translations in a concise, Anglo-Saxon style that are fully comprehensible, pleasant to read and intended for someone who may have no knowledge of any foreign language.
French: Having previously lived in France and Senegal, I have translated documents on international organisations, political science, criminology, history, art, tourism, international cooperation and EU food safety regulations.
Spanish and Catalan: A resident of Barcelona since 2004, I have translated texts related to literature, theatre, film, architecture, culture, tourism, cooking, art, history, sociology, law, education, agriculture, business, technology, marketing, government policy, international development, road safety, EU programmes and much more.
Arabic: I have taught Arabic grammar at the university level and for the US Army and worked for the Coalition Provisional Authority of Iraq as a translator, interpreter and NGO coordinator. I have corrected Arabic-English translations of content from Arabic-language news sites Al Arabiya and Al Jazeera and edited an anthology of Iraqi poetry.
