If you mean the time of the year when spring is not here yet, but you can already feel those subtle changes in the weather and in the air that let you feel like winter is going to an end, although it's still quite cold. Something like this?

: With Shannon - a reference to approaching spring, which is most common in English speaking environment. I don't think you should be entangled with "ashioto". Such is a Japanese specific expression.

This is quite a literal translation, but I suppose more poetic than footsteps. (Well, footfall is more accurate translation of 足音 than footstep anyway.)

かなり超訳ですが、文脈にうまく組み込めば、なんだか知的（詩的？）で私たちが持つ「春が来る」というプラスのイメージも加えることができるのではないかと思って、ちょっと冒険してみました。視点をちょっと変えつつ…

I guess you could use this kind of expression depending on where and to whom you speak to. However, I believe it gives you a kind of "credit", hopefully. :)
