Is there any way to have MS Word ignore all the text in my comments when spellchecking?

Yes, Michael, you need to lcoate the style used for 'comments' (I believe it is just called 'comments' in EN, though I have the FR version of Word; you can then modify that style by changing the language settings to include 'do not check spelling or grammar' — just as you would do for any other text style.

I usually also change the language, as customers often send me documents in FR with the 'comments' style in DE, NL, or goodness knows what! So I have to set it to either FR or E

Thanks Tony! Jul 31, 2013

I'll have to try that out!

Hans Lenting also gave me the following macro to try:

------------------------------*
Sub ExcludeCommentsFromSpellChecking()
Dim commentaar As Comment

For Each commentaar In ActiveDocument.Comments

commentaar.Range.Select
Selection.LanguageID = wdNoProofing
Next commentaar
End Sub

you'll have to close the comments pane after running the macro
