原書のテキスト - 英語 The Urinary System
There are two kidneys in a human body. The outer portion of the kidney is called the
renal cortex and the inner portion, the renal medulla. The renal cells and capillaries
are arranged to form a small structure called the nephron, specific to the kidneys,
which is composed of three major parts: the glomerulus, the Bowman’s capsule and
the renal tubule.
The initial part of the renal tubule is called the proximal tubule. It extends to the
descending limb and then to the ascending limb of the loop of Henle, which further
extends to the distal tubule and ends at the collecting tubule to the renal pelvis.
Urine is formed in the following three sequential processes:
1. Filtration: Water and soluble substances are filtered out from the blood in the
glomerulus into the Bowman’s capsule.
2. Reabsorption: Water and soluble substances are reabsorbed from the renal tubule
into the blood.
3. Secretion: Hydrogen and potassium ions (H+ and K+) and certain drugs (e.g.
penicillin) are secrete
原書のテキスト - 英語 Hypertension
Blood pressure results mainly from the force created by the heart’s contraction and the force created by the peripheral resistance at the arterioles.
Hypertension is defined to be a systolic pressure of 140 mmHg or greater and/or a diastolic pressure of 90 mmHg or greater.
Hypertension is now divided into two types: one type is called primary or essential hypertension, which is hypertension due to an unknown cause, and which accounts for about 90% of the cases. The other is secondary hypertension associated with some lesion such as chronic nephritis or adrenal cortex tumor which is proved to be responsible for the elevated blood pressure.
