周辺

日本語 から 英語 技術/工学
Can 周辺 be translated here as "around" or "about," yielding "about 8.2Khz"?

Or is this actually related to the idea of "circumference"?

Here is the original sentence:

しかし、異なる衝突音をフーリエ展開した周波数を分析すると、8.2KHz周辺の周波数成分を多く含んでおり、これが固有周波数であることが判る。

"about" "nearly" "approximately" "around"

Either one above is fine but I would choose "around" because I've seen it used in similar sentences.

around

frequency component around 8.2 kHz

Strictly speaking, "about" and "approximately" are more like "約".

agree Kurt Keyser : This is the most accurate translation for this situation.

Thanks. But, "approximately" doesn't seem to go well with "frequency component" in this context.

close to

In this case, "close to" is better, because a true inherent frequency come close to 8.2 kHz infinitely.
