In addition, the initial favoritism tends to be accompanied by further favoritism in subsequent stages during employees’ careers, with promotions not being given on the basis of achievement. In such an environment, good, reliable staff cannot hope for promotion or pay increases, leading to morale problems. Moreover most of the members of the insider group are not impartial, as they are generally more acquiescent and politically motivated than outsiders, leading to potentially poor advice. Despite the efforts of outside members, the salary gaps will continue to increase over time.
