原書のテキスト - 英語 Shikinen Sengu ceremony
The Shikinen Sengu ceremony is conducted every 20 years to rebuild all shrines and renew all sacred treasures within Ise Jingu.
The first Shikinen Sengu ceremony was conducted during the reign of Empress Jito approximately 1300 years ago. And since that time, the ceremony has been faithfully conducted every 20 years with the exception of a 125-year span during a period of brutal civil wars that overwhelmed much of the country from the late 15th century through the end of 16th century.
The Shikinen Sengu ceremony recommenced in the late 1500s, through the significant support of a Buddhist nun named Keikouin Shonin and Nobunaga Oda, a powerful civil war fighter and feudal lord.
Following the deaths of Shonin and Oda, the feudal lord Hideyoshi Toyotomi and Shogun Tokugawa continued to support Ise Jingu. Their assistance and contributions helped pave the way for Jingu to grow and prosper into what it has become today, the spiritual home of the Japanese people.
In 2013, the 62nd Shikinen Sengu ceremony was conducted at Ise Jingu wherein all shrines were rebuilt and all sacred treasures were renewed including Ootorii at the entrance of Ujibashi bridge and the bridge itself. The main palace at Naiku was rebuilt, the sacred treasures renewed and the kami, Amaterasu-omikami was relocated from the sacred western site to the sacred eastern site within the main sanctuary.
