Aurt de paiement

French to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general) in a lease (typo)
Bonjour,

Hello Asker Are you there?
We're all waiting for more context
AllegroTrans May 9, 2021:
Asker It would assist if you could tell us what the "paiement" is and post a couple of the immediately preceding sentences

@ Translatorgb Hello

As you are a new poster, it's possible that you don't know that contracts are often pdf files that are then OCRd (run through an optical recognition software, to extract the text. The OCRs often make errors that look like typos. Do you have the original file to look at rather than an xliff or docx prepared by the agency etc.?

If you know all this, excuse me but "new poster" sometimes means "new translator"
Translatorgb (asker) May 9, 2021:
That is the whole sentence. It seems to refer to the tenants. Does that help at all?
philgoddard May 9, 2021:
It could be "au transfert". But I agree with the previous requests for more context.
AllegroTrans May 8, 2021:
If it IS "faute de paiement" then we need to what exactly the payment is for (or isn't in the event of the lessor not being tax-resident in France). I suspect this is about payment of some form of tax but we need more context.
SafeTex May 8, 2021:
faute de/à défault de (paiement dans le délai) These two expressions are very common before "paiement dans le délai" but do they make sense here? Does failure to pay equate to a declaration of non residency (and so the person does not have to pay French taxes or whatever)
Marco Solinas May 8, 2021:
To Asker "Aurt" is clearly a typo. The question is what it was supposed to be in the intention of the author. "À défaut" is a possibility, in the sense that "le Bailleur" was supposed to pay something (the test of the source text may indicate what), but did not pay, on the grounds that he/she is a non-resident according to French tax law. However, the use of "à défaut" with this meaning would be unusual.
"En lieu de paiement" is another possibility.
Conor McAuley May 8, 2021:
And what text do you have before "Aurt"?
Conor McAuley May 8, 2021:
The sentence, as posted, does not make any sense, and "aurt" is not a French word as far as I'm aware.
