Mary Jane Shubow Oct 15, 2012:
floating charge vs floating lien It seems that a floating lien may be one kind of floating charge. The word lien is more restrictive than the word charge, just as שעבוד is more restrictive than חיוב. As for the difference in meaning in English, it seems that floating charge is used in the UK and floating lien is used in the States, and that there are some differences between them. Thank you all, so far. What is the difference, if any, between Floating Charge and Floating Lien? I read several definitions, and they seem to be synonyms.

floating lien or floating collateral

I prefer this translation as שעבוד would more specifically be lien or collateral.
Example sentence:

The actual items of property can change over time (e.g., an inventory full of winter boots may become an inventory full of summer sandals), but a floating lien continues to assure the creditor that its loan is secured by valuable assets.

A "floating" lien is one that floats overtop multiple properties or assets, with a claim on all of them.
