I noticed that the Dutch equivalent of a German directive contained leading letters i), (i), (ii), (iii) whereas the German version didn't have these. So I wanted to remove them.

Can't you just use the CafeTran find/replace function? (replacing the leading letters with a space, which you can correct later, or with nothing)
