Prices: Translation/Revision/Proofreading

Hello all,

I would like to hear your opinion about the price ratio between the following activities:

- Translation
- Proofreading
- MT post-editing
- Revision

What percentage do you take for Proofreading compared to Translation, for example?
I would really appreciate your answers and points of view.

Have you checked the community rates? It will give you a rough idea (https://search.proz.com/employers/rates?source_lang=ita&target_lang=bul&disc_spec_id=¤cy=eur&submit=Submit)

I charge both proofreading and revision by the hour not by word.

Some searches will yield some truly silly figures.

67-80% is probably sensible (don't do 50%, but also don't expect anybody to buy into 100%...alas, they're in it for the cost savings, and unfortunately, chances are your client will send lots and lots of MTPE your way).

In fact, probably raise your Translation rate higher than what you're aiming for, so as to have a "lower" MTPE rate that still satisfies you.

Because you should expect companies that ask about MTPE rates to mostly offer MTPE, if not immediately, then soon.

Revising it upwards later will be a pain and a possible source of conflict in an otherwise normal relationship.


PS as to Revision, bill full hourly equivalent of Translation, and if per word, something like 40%.
