In memoQ, there is this useful tool that let's you define words, like all words in [square brackets], as uneditable tags. It's really useful in gaming translations with a lot of variables in the text. Is there a similar tool in Trados? It's possible I'll have to switch to Trados to work with a certain client.

The implementation, though, is not quite straightforward and intuitive—which is typical of SDL, I’d say. I find memoQ’s approach much more usable and practical.
