The shortest way to calculate number of characters in mobi.

I have my own (bought) mobi, but is useless (DRM), until I calculate number of characters (or word at least). Do you know some scripts, programs etc. that could be helpful? My OS i OS X but I have virtual machine with Windows 8.1 inside.
I really appreciate your help.

... but this file is DRM-protectec, so you can't convert it to anything

There are various DRM removal programs around the internet, some of which have free trial periods. Can't give you specific links, but they shouldn't be hard to find.
