I'm not sure if this is precisely the way I would put it, but the data types mentioned are treated in a special way by the compiler, not in the same way as other data types. They are treated as special cases. "Special cased" is one of those verbs they should not have invented, because the proper way to say this is not difficult or laborious. But they do it all the time.
