日本語の用語またはフレーズ 警報を発報する
This phrase is found in this context:

警報を出さずに切断動作などのリトライを行う。それでも検出できない場合は、警報を発報し点検をお願いする。

I couldn't get my head around how to translate this properly. I'm torn between using the passive voice and the active voice for 「警報を出す」 or 「警報を発報する」, since using the active voice would seem to suggest the user is the one "manually" triggering the warning as opposed to it being triggered automatically.

I chose to use the passive voice for the first part of the sentence and rendered it as "The warning is activated". Then used the active voice for the second part and ended with "Perform inspection".

But honestly it doesn't feel right.

Any help will very much appreciated.

Sound the alarm
説明:
In this case, as you are asking about voice, which is determined by context, the entire passage needs to be translated. I myself would use the active voice for both instances :
The cutting action is retried without sounding the alarm. If no detection is made, the alarm is sounded to request an inspection.
Without more context I can't tell what is being cut, and what is being detected, but if that has been made clear the second sentence might sound more naturat as If no XXXX is detected, the alarm is sounded to request an inspection.

Many thanks! This supports my earlier comment on the discussion board. In the end, the passive voice sounded more natural to describe the program sequence. Cheers!

中立  Marc Brunet: good feel of the sequence described, but 'alarm' is too strong IMO, isn't that signal more like a warning/call for attention or human intervention as you said? what about 'Alert'?

-> Sure, I like "warning", it could be "The cutting action is retried without a warning being given. If no detection is made, a warning is given to request an inspection", both passive. In my 1st example the 2nd instance is actually passive, my mistake!
