Jeff Allen has 2 decades of experience in many areas across the entire business life cycle (marketing, pre-sales, sales, account management, project/program management, product management, development, custom development, QA testing, TEP production, release management, deployment, customer support, customer maintenance bug fixing, professional services & consulting,, partner/customer training, ISO9001 Quality Management, Executive Management, Advisory boards) at several language services /software companies (Translations.com/TransPerfect/AlchemySoftware, SYSTRAN, Softissimo, MIT2, ELDA, Language Technologies Institute) and other (non-translation) software and engineering companies (Caterpillar, Mycom Intl, SAP, Business Objects, Cartesis). He has been a member of the MultiLingual magazine advisory board and the LINGUIST-List industry advisory board over the past decade.

He is known for his work in controlled language writing for translation, Machine Translation dictionary building and post-editing, translation memory, website and software localization, translation workflow management systems, terminology management, speech technologies, and now has recent publications covering areas including ISO9001 certification, cross-team/project engineering tool integration, and cross-cultural team building and conflict management.
Michael Beijer
Michael is a full-time professional translator & terminologist with over 20 years of experience working in the European translation industry. He translates exclusively from Dutch into English and provides glossary creation/extraction and terminology consulting services.

Michael keeps up to date with the latest developments in the translation world by actively participating in a wide range of online forums, mailing lists, translation & terminology blogs and is also very active in the Proz.com forums, where he is consistently among the top three ‘KudoZ points leaders’ in his language pair. Michael is also a member of the small team working on creating ‘The Missing Manual’ for CafeTran, his preferred CAT tool.

Jim Wardell
James Wardell, Ph.D.

James Wardell has been a professional German-to-English translator since 1969. He holds a Ph.D. in Germanic Languages and Literatures from the University of Michigan. His main areas of specialization are pharmaceutical technology, chemicals and chemical engineering, banking and investment, intellectual property, automotive engineering, environmental technology and quality assurance. Dr. Wardell has been primarily active as an independent translator but has also worked in-house in major global enterprises.

He makes extensive use of productivity and quality enhancement resources such as speech recognition, OCR, and CAT tools like MemoQ and also has extensive experience with SDL/Trados, Déjà vu and Star Transit.

His outside activities include playing jazz baritone saxophone, flute and clarinet, gardening, nature study and hiking. He and his wife Bärbl Knorr reside in Regensburg Germany.
Barbara Inge Karsch
Barbara Inge Karsch is the owner of BIK Terminology, a terminology consultancy and training company. As consultant and trainer, Barbara works with companies and organizations on terminology training, terminology development and the implementation of terminology management systems. She draws on her 14-year experience as in-house terminologist for J.D. Edwards and Microsoft. Barbara holds a lectureship at New York University. As US delegate to ISO TC 37, Barbara is leading the revision of ISO 12616, Translation-Oriented Terminography. She is also the chair of ATA's Terminology Committee.
Mirko Plitt
A linguist by training, Mirko Plitt has held varied positions in translation companies as well as in the localisation department of a large translation service consumer, with responsibilities that included translation, review and QA, project management, and translation technology (terminology management, translation management and machine translation). He now runs a small Swiss company which offers a range of language services, from process and technology consultancy to specialised translation for selected vertical industries.
