Hello everyone,
I'm translating (from spanish into italian) a portion of "Memoria de mis putas tristes" by Gabriel García Márquez and I ran into this expression that I really can't translate properly.
I know that this novel has already been translated into Italian, but I don't want to read the official translation as I am doing this work as an exercise for my Spanish Translation course at the university and I don't want to be influenced by it :)
Anyway, the expression is "frío como un lebranche". Is it a fixed expression by any chance? Or is used by the writer trying to convey a special meaning?

"Me pregunté de qué servía despertarla, humillado y triste como me sentía, y frío como un lebranche."

Lo que ha hecho García Márquez es parafrasear el dicho "frío como un pez", que aún cuando se explica por sí solo, en ese texto tiene una clara connotación sexual (de frigidez), determinada tanto por el argumento en sí como por el contexto específico del pasaje y además por frases como "Una corriente cálida me subió por la venas, y mi lento animal jubilado despertó de su largo sueño."
