Deflation basins, called blowouts, are hollows formed by the removal of particles by wind. Blowouts are generally small, but may be up to several kilometers in diameter. (cartage.org)
Slopes protected from the prevailing winds have had negligible wind erosion except in areas where severe erosion created deflation basins. These blowout basins are limited to small interfluve areas, a few square miles in size, which probably had a thick layer of loose, sand-size fissile-shale fragments that winds could erode. 風食凹地
天然記念物の指定に際して、得意な地形として明記されている「スリバチ」とはなにか？ 湾曲した急斜面に囲まれた凹地地形であり、形態が擂鉢上のもの。 (鳥取砂丘ものしり帳 )
鳥取砂丘の特徴の一つに、その形が似ていることからスリバチと呼ぱれる凹地が見られる。 昔は三十以上もあったとされるが、今では十ヵ所程度という。追後（おいご）スリパチ、合せヶ谷（あわせがたに）スリバチ、六児（むつご）スリバチなどがその代表的なもの。なかでも砂丘南側にある追後スリバチはもっとも大規模なスリバチだ。まるで噴火口のような趣で、もっとも深いところでは四十メートルにも達する。 (鳥取砂丘 － 岩井温泉から�)
