The first 2 kanji mean epilepsy and the second 2 usually mean "merger", but in this case, they are "complications", at least in U.S. English.

Dear Calum, 障害 means a mental of physical challenge which we used to call a handicap, but no longer use due to its negative connotations. This is not talking about a physical challenge plus epilepsy, but rather, epilepsy is the challenge. To explain further to the other response, "epileptic complications" does not mean that epilepsy is complicated by other diseases. The standard U.S. meaning of a "disease name + complications" means that there are complications from epilepsy. I hope this is more clear.

complicated epilepsy
I dont think it is epileptic complications.
Here is a disease complicated by epilepsy, but not epilepsy comlicated by other diseases.

: すみません。勘違いしました。’complicated disease’(合併疾患）の’complicated’ですね。いろんな癲癇があるので間違えました。でも[uncomplicated epilepsy]→合併症のない癲癇？分からないのでもう止めます。

Is which answer is correct then dependent on whether you view the epilepsy, or the 障害 to be the predominant problem?
