Discussion

Takeshi MIYAHARA Mar 11, 2014:
just a typo Many Japanese often make a typo. "evidence:" is a good expression but it is 出典 in Japanese, by the way. Japanese-Japanese dictionaries define 出展 merely as to exhibit an item at a show / an exhibition.
bistefano Mar 11, 2014:
It's really 出展 IMHO My opinion is that Prof. Chiu is not the source (出典) of some reference information, but rather the source of evidence 出展 (exhibit item?) for what is said and/or displayed.
Lekhika (asker) Mar 9, 2014:
I, too had the feeling that the choice of kanji may not be right, but that is how it appears in the original document. Perhaps "出典' will fit the context better.
Takeshi MIYAHARA Mar 9, 2014:
Then, it's not 出展 but 出典 出展 literally means "present(ed by)" or "exhibit(ed by)", but referring to your post of discussion, Prof. George Chiu is not the person who made a presentation but the person whose material was used for someone's presentation. This means, it is mere a source = 出典.
So, this is supposed to be "Source: ~~~." The choice of this original word in the translation material (presentation?) is incorrect.
Lekhika (asker) Mar 9, 2014:
This appears in a presentation made by another person, using Prof. George Chiu's material for reference

Exhibit (evidence) from :

出展 can be a name not just a verb, just like "exhibit" in english.
I think the meaning is along the line of "Evidence comes from prof. ...", just shortcutted. At least, this is my opinion, if you have context enough you will know.

Is 出展 really correct? If this is 出典、then it becomes "source: ...."
Note from asker:
Exhibit (evidence) from : Explanation: 出展 can be a name not just a verb, just like "exhibit" in english. 出典 does appear to be the correct kanji in the context.

neutral bistefano : Would you mind to check my proposal ? It's not the same of your in semantic nuance, though it appears similar verbally
