Really sorry but I have a killer deadline. I thought after 11 years of this job and only 1 powwow I would be able to make it, but just can't. Hope to see some of you in Pisa maybe?
Dear all, as I will be in Cambridge again on Saturday 29 March (attending an evening event), I thought I would organise another powwow since they are a great way to meet colleagues in person and have an opportunity to discuss our industry.

Hello. Welcome to Proz.com. I think the location may depend on how many of us can get together in the end. As I don't live in Cambridge, I'm hoping that some locals will be able to suggest a venue.

That date looks good for me too. The previous powwows I've organised in Cambridge have been lunchtime events at the Fort St George pub, by the river on Midsummer Common. I'm sure there are lots of other options but it's one possibility.
Looking forward to it.
Russell

Sorry, I thought I was already following this thread, but apparently not, so I missed your post. Lunchtime would be good for me too, if that is a preferred option. I could just catch an earlier train.
Best,
Nikki

Hello everyone. Thanks for showing an interest in this Powwow. I have now received my official invitation from Emmanuel College and the weekend of events stats at 3:30, so could we please meet earlier for lunch as Russell mentioned? Somewhere central so I can get to the afternoon event on time would be great. Thank you! Nikki

First of all I hope you are all receiving the posts in this thread! Secondly, sorry that you won't be able to make it Oliver as I was looking forward to meeting you seeing as I never got the chance to say hello at the conference in London last October. Thirdly, I have looked at the train times and am aiming to arrive in Cambridge around midday which should give me plenty of time to get somewhere for a one o'clock lunch. Dear all,
First of all I hope you are all receiving the posts in this thread! However, as I don't live in the city, could someone please volunteer to look at venues for us and make the final arrangements? It would also be great if people could confirm whether they can attend or not. Thank you!
I was in central Cambridge this morning so I did a tour of the pubs not far from Emmanuel. My recommendation is the one I first thought of (!) The Avery in Regent Terrace, behind Regent St. and overlooking Parkers Piece.
A few years ago, we used to hold occasional Italian conversation group meetings there, in the big upstairs bar and could usually find a separate, quieter area. That was early weekday evenings and this is Saturday lunchtime, but it's not in term time so it sh... See more

The website is here: http://gkpubs.co.uk/pubs-in-cambridge/avery-pub/ with a link to the Menu. What caught my eye was the "Sandwich, Side and a Drink" e.g. Soup, sandwich and a pint of IPA for £5.99.
If anyone with more local knowledge than me has a better idea, do please say. ▲ Collapse

Sorry not to have replied before. One way or another I've been quite busy. Thanks very much for finding a venue. That sounds perfect (well for me at any rate). Do you think we'll need to book? I'm just going to send an email to everyone who's signed up in case they're not following the thread.
Best regards,
Nikki

It looks as though we're unlikely to have more than about 8 people and I'd be surprised if the pub took bookings anyway. It's not like using a separate room. If it appears numbers are likely to grow significantly, we might have to rethink or at least tell the pub we're coming. I'll be there from about 12.30.

I've been surprised to find that the standard ProZ.com reminder, asking people to confirm or otherwise, got a better response than a personal e-mail.
Are you going to update the details on the page header - or maybe you have to ask site staff to do that?
Just in case anyone planning to come is not too familiar with Cambridge parking, the Queen Anne multi-storey carpark is close by, on the other side of Gonville Place. It's a little less expensive than the outrageous parking costs elsewhere in the city centre. There are also five Park and Ride sites around Cambridge: http://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/transport/around/park-ride/ with all buses running both to the Drummer Street bus station (8 minutes walk from the pub) and to the Grafton Centre shopping centre (12 minutes walk from the pub). The station is 15 minutes walk away (all according to Google Maps).
Just a reminder that we'll be meeting in the upstairs bar. This pub is almost big enough to get lost in, especially if you don't know the people you're looking for!
As I shall probably be there before Nikki, I have a ProZ.com logo sign that I will place on the table.
