Actually, I have not come across 存亡を迫られている as a phrase and it sounds a bit odd to me. Others may disagree.
The way I conjecture the situation is on the lines of: this company has been forced to make a decision since it is in a critical situation/moment because unless that decision proves successful, the company will founder. (For example, 会社の存亡を賭けた選択を迫られている）
As alternatives:
"on the knife-edge"
"up against the wall"
I may be totally wrong...
