Could simply be a clerical error. Since in the subsequent text its only 半導体装置this might as well be the case with the name of the invention, I think.

Hello Rie-san, not at all, it seems... it's just a long description of how some "MOS semiconductor" (complementary metal oxide semiconductor in general) is prepared. The Japanese patent was over 20 years old. So, it's got nothing to do with display, e.g. LCD (as I had been misled to interpret as such). Thank you again.

Hi Wong-san, Is this patent related to some type of display panels (pdp, lcd)? Then, I think it was meant to be 半導体表示装置.
