Hindi can be said to have a curious sense of time, for the same word कल (kal) is used for both tomorrow and today.
Is it because Hindi-speakers are wise beyond words and know that the more things change, the more they remain the same? So yesterday and tomorrow - a difference of a mere 24 hours, means nothing in the cosmic scales of time, and do not merit a different word?

Conversely, are languages like English which have different (and weighty, multi-syllibilic) words for periods of time separated by 24 hours, materialistic in outlook, and are people who speak these languages accustomed to live life moment to moment, so that they need to distinguish between short lapses of time? Anyway, compared to the 10,000 year old history of the civilization to which Hindi belongs, the civilizations that have spawned English can be termed mere upstarts and blinks in the vast historical time scale.
May be, when these languages too mature and grow wise (as Hindi!) they too would realize the meaningless-ness of separating tomorrow and yesterday, and realize the advantage of having one seamless continuity of time, and discard the words yesterday and tomorrow in favour of a single term that applies to both!

Educationalists claim that very young children were not able to differentiate between yesterday and tomorrow. They considered both days as "the day next to today". Unfortunately I can't rember that.

Well, it is funny, but why assume that procrastination is necessarily bad? It it weren't for the capacity to put off anything that can be put off, truly critical things would never get done. Or we would lose the flexibility to do things at the most opportune time for that particular task, not just when we happen to have free time in general, which we would probably prefer to spend doing something else.

But when my original phone, and the replacement, both met with unfortunate accidents within a short space of time, I was very glad I never got around to making that call to cancel the coverage.
Or when my wife's bracelet broke, I carried it with me for a few days to see if any local jewelers could fix it, but none wanted to try with this particular piece. I never got around to taking it out of my jacket pocket, so several weeks later I still had it when, during a shopping excursion to a large mall far enough away that we rarely go there, I suddenly saw - much to my surprise - that one of the bracelet maker's very few retail stores in the US was in that very mall. I went inside, explained the situation, and they replaced the bracelet for free.
If not for my procrastination, I'd be out the cost of two new phones, and my wife's bracelet would still be broken. ▲ Collapse
