should read "is in charge of"
Mar 6, 2011
"The Program for the Protection of Ethnolinguistic Diversity, in conjunction with Law 1381 of 2010, is charged with the protection and preservation of indigenous language and culture."
"Is charged with" makes it sound like this program committed a felony in protecting these languages. No doubt a mistranslation of "está encargado de".

Looks like standard English to me

I see this phrase all the time in government documents from the U.S., in phrases like "the Commission is charged with..." (meaning "the Commission is in charge of...").
I've also seen it on occasion in British source documents.
